Nursing Scholarships

We encourage students to look for and apply for any scholarships that they can find. In addition to offsetting the cost of tuition, outside nursing specific scholarships introduce students to organizations that can broaden one’s idea of what a nurse can accomplish and how nurses are needed in today’s society. The following links offer financial aid in the forms of loans and grants available for nursing students.

  1. HRSA
    1. Scholarships for Disadvantaged Students
      1. Available to students in training for a future health profession (e.g. nursing baccalaureate) who qualify for “disadvantaged” standing as defined by HRSA

    2. Nursing Scholarship Program
      1. Provides tuition, required fees and other costs pertaining to nursing education, and a monthly stipend in exchange for at least two years of service at a critically short-handed health care facility. Highly competitive.

    3. Nursing Student Loan Program
      1. Offers low-interest loans to full- and half-time students enrolled in a nursing-based program

    4. Nursing Loan Repayment
      1. HRSA offers loan repayment (60% of incurred costs) to registered nurses in exchange for two years at a health institution of critical need.

  2. NIH
    1. Undergraduate Scholarship Program
      1. The NIH offers a scholarship to students committed to pursuing a research-based career in behavior, social, or biomedical sciences.

  3. A number of specialized, less significant scholarships are available to students of various demographic groups and financial need. A comprehensive listing of many of these scholarships is available at www.discovernursing.com/scholarship_search.aspx , where a scholarship search tailored to a student’s background can be fulfilled.     1. AAMN (American Assembly for Men in Nursing)
      1. Foundation Scholarship established for male students pursuing nursing education programs

      1. Awards a scholarship to nursing students enrolled in educational programs leading to initial licensure
