Admission to the Program in Nursing Science Major (non-UCI Students):

Prospective students must apply separately to the Program in Nursing Science and to the University of California, Irvine. Two applications are required. Admission to the University does not guarantee you a spot into the Nursing Science program.

  • Submit an application to UCI. Please refer to the University Admission Web Site for admissions requirements, deadlines, and the tracking of your UC application status.
  • Nursing Science Supplemental Application. Applications can be submitted online through the UCI Admission webpage or a paper application can be submitted to the Nursing Science Undergraduate Counseling office.

Incoming Freshman (High School Students)

High School students interested in entering as freshmen need to complete the following requirements to be considered for admission to the nursing science program:

  • 2 years of a high school laboratory science in two core science disciplines: biology, chemistry and/or physics.
  • Have a C or higher for all grades.
  • At least a 2.75 grade point average.
  • Score of 500 or above on SAT/ACT Scores.
  • Volunteer work or community service work. Volunteer work in health care is strongly encouraged.

Incoming Transfer/2nd Baccalaureates:

Transfer students and 2nd Baccalaureate students can apply to the Nursing Science Program beginning November 1 through November 30 for the following Fall quarter. Transfer students and 2nd Baccalaureate students are admitted at junior level standing and the program takes 2 years to complete. All lower division prerequisites must be completed, or in progress at the time of application and must be completed before the program starts in the Fall. It is not possible to complete any prerequisites concurrently with the nursing courses. Prerequisites must be completed with a "C" or better. The following requirements must be met in order to be considered for admission:
  • Must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Grades for all prerequisites must be letter grade and a “B” or higher.
  • Must have general education/IGETC completed.

UCI Change of Major Students and UCI 2nd Baccalaureate Students:

Due to the strict number of limits on the number of students who can be admitted to the program and rigid sequencing of upper division curriculum, major changes will ordinarily be considered ONLY in the Fall and Winter quarter immediately preceding the sophomore year and junior years. Change of major students should contact the Student Affairs Office regarding course planning and the admission procedures. The following is required in order to be considered for admission to the major.
  • Cumulative UC GPA of 2.0 and a quarterly GPA of 2.0 immediately preceding the change of major.
  • Student should have a 2.75 average in all courses completed that fulfill requirements for the major.
  • Submit a supplemental application and Change of Major form.
  • Entering Sophomores: completion of General Chemistry series and Bio Sci 93 & Bio Sci 97.
  • Entering Juniors: completion of the above courses and Bio Sci 98, 99, M122,Chemistry 51A and Basic Statistics (Math 7/Bio Sci 8/ or Stat 7).
