CLINICAL NURSE EDUCATOR PROGRAM

The Clinical Nurse Educator Program is an innovative educational program to prepare masters and baccalaureate prepared RNs to become effective clinical faculty members in the Orange County and Long Beach areas.

Seminars
12 hour Seminars provide a practical approach to clinical nursing instruction. Upon successful completion, program graduates will be equipped with basic skills and knowledge to effectively lead a clinical rotation of nursing students as a clinical instructor.

Courses
Additionally, a 40 hour Course for master’s prepared RNs will include graduate-level content in teaching and learning principles and methods. Emphasis will be on teaching and learning styles, preparation of class materials, conducting lectures and seminars, and evaluation methods. Upon successful completion, participants will be able to serve as an Instructor for either clinical or didactic teaching assignments.

Following both Seminars & Courses, participants will be paired with experienced clinical mentors in the field for a preceptorship experience.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES
  • Describe the role transition from clinical expert to novice teacher.
  • Develop teaching strategies to facilitate psychomotor skills, caring behaviors and clinical decision-making.
  • Develop a plan for conducting clinical conferences.
  • Develop a beginning lesson plan including learning outcomes and instructional objectives.
  • Discuss strategies to incorporate the use of technology in the classroom setting to enhance healthcare education.
  • Examine the process of developing tests in a variety of formats to reflect the learning outcomes of a course.
