About the Program

The Program in Nursing Science was established in 2005.  The undergraduate and graduate Nursing Science Program will provide academic and professional education in the discipline of nursing. Nursing is interdisciplinary and collaborative in its art and its science. The body of knowledge that comprises nursing science includes application of knowledge from the biological, social, behavioral and biomedical sciences. The programs will prepare graduates for basic clinical and advanced practice roles as well as for educational, administrative and research positions across the healthcare delivery system and for faculty positions in academic institutions.  Nursing Science research is formulated within an expanded view of health that includes health promotion, restoration and rehabilitation.  This program will promote outstanding research within the nursing science subspecialties as well as related areas of interest of faculty.

The Application Filing Period for the Fall of 2009 begins November 1st.. Beginning October 1, 2008, students may start their online Pathways application at: www.universityofcalifornia.edu/apply/. Two applications are required. One application for the UC system and one application for the Nursing Science Program.

The Spring 2008 Noteworthy Nursing Newsletter has been released.

On February 14, 2008 the Office of the Governor of California officially named Nursing Science Professor Ruth Mulnard to the state’s Public Health Advisory Committee. Read the press release here.

The Program in Nursing Science would like to congratulate students Sean Sampson and Mike Huynh for receiving the Kaiser Permanente Deloras Jones Nursing Scholarship Award.

Ruth A. Mulnard, DNSc, RN, FAAN, an Associate Professor in the Program in Nursing Science, was inducted as a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing on November 10, 2007 during their annual meeting. For more information, please visit this page.
